These types of diets can be dangerous despite the fact that they
promise quick results. What people should do is follow more sensible diets
suggested by real doctors and not random journalists.
Recently, a fad diet was published in a popular greek magazine , which claimed
that you would be able to lose four kilos in a week and manage to "spice
up" your body for the beach. According to people who tried it though, the
only thing they lost was time, money and strength. That's a perfect example of
why you should not follow the diets you see advertised. In addition to being
quite expensive - the writers of fad diets often suggest rare types of fruit,
vegetables and so on - such diets can also affect your mood and most
importantly, make you significantly weaker because they deprive you of vital
foods. And, on top of everything, they rarely prove to be successful, because
they make you feel hungrier so you eat more and end up gaining back the weight
you lost.
So, instead of struggling with fad diets, what you should do is consult a professional
doctor or a diet specialist who will suggest a diet to you based on your
metabolism, age, height and other vital characteristics. Such diets might be
long-term but they certainly won't be harmful to you. Quite the opposite. You
should take in mind that good diets usually contain a little bit of everything -
large portions of fruit and vegetables, smaller quantities of bread and meat
and occasionally some foods rich in sugar. Finally, if your doctors advises you
to start exercising, don't ignore him - it's going to cheer you up and help you
get back in shape.
To sum up, a person who wants to lose weight should not panic and follow a fad
diet. Instead, he should ask a doctor for assistance, follow a well-balanced
diet and get some exercise as well. It might take a bit longer, but the results
will be well-worth the effort.
This essay was written by me, Caroline Alexiou, during the summer writing
program of my English school. I'm studying for my Proficiency Certificate right
now :).
The first paragraph is the introduction. My thesis statement is written in
bold. The second and the third paragraphs are the main ones and the fourth is
of course the conclusion. Notice that in the conclusion I merely repeat the
points I made in the introduction. This essay is a good one, that's the reason
I put it on my website.
