Tomb Raider Influenced by the Matrix

The Matrix movie has been the source of inspiration for many other movies and games and has certainly given food for thought and discussion. It is a popular topic and people seem to find the whole concept really cool (myself included). We pupils often talk about the fight scenes and some times fake ducking bullets. You should have seen us!

It is true that Tomb Raider has been influenced by the Matrix to a certain extent. The creators of Tomb Raider off course didn't even attempt to touch the Matrix storyline. They did copy some of the cool moves from the fight scenes though. What Lara Croft has taken from the Matrix is Trinity's moves, as proven by the following demonstration, aided by visuals. In no way do I claim that Tomb Raider is a Matrix rip-off, please don't get me wrong. This page is just for fun.

Comics! Tomb Raider Comics Issue #35

Lara Croft, biker bars, rattlesnakes, and motorcycles how could anything possibly go wrong? Come along with Lara as she embarks on her newest quest, and comes face to face with The Black Legion and a new nemesis, Lady Jasmine. Join us for Part 1 of a two-part story arc that is brought to you in stunning visuals by Tony Daniel, and written by newcomer James Bonny.

That's the promotional text for the comic. But, look at the cover picture. Doesn't it look familiar? Arms stretched, one leg up. Hmm... Trinity, anyone? Even the black tops and the boots look like they have been brought from the Matrix backstage.

Angel of Darkness Matrix Style!

Official Image

This is an official wallpaper for Tomb Raider the Angel of Darkness, which shows Lara falling from the sky, just as you'd expect Trinity from the Matrix to do. I have replaced the white background with the machine city from the Matrix Revolutions to make the similarities more obvious. This is one of my favorite pictures. Nice job with the animation of Lara's ponytail.

Level Editor Cheat for Matrix Style movementLevel Editor Cheat

By pressing the keys "DOZY" simultaneously when playing a custom level (a level created with the Level Editor) you will make Lara fly in the air with her hands up in some matrix-style movement. Since custom levels are only for the PC, you can't do that in the Playstation. It's really cool! You can prevent Lara from dying that way, since her health becomes unlimited and you can browse the level in GOD MODE. If you want to return to normal mode, just press "DOZY" again. It's relatively easy for level creators to prevent this from happening though, so you can't do it in most custom levels. Anyway, it's something funny to do.
