Tuesday 29th of June-- Brazilian Lara Croft fans demand a new Lara Croft model!

The brazillian fans of Lara Croft and Tomb Raider games are demanding a new Lara Croft model for Brazil to replace the former model, Ellen Roche.

EIDOS isn't directly represented in Brazil, the corporate is represented in the country through Green Leaf. They chose Ellen Roche to be the official and exclusive Lara Croft for Brazil in 2002.

Actually Green Leaf handled a national contest to choose the next brazillian Lara but they never presented the final results...

So now looks like the fans got together and are fighting for a new brazillian Lara Croft in the flesh.

Here's the petition (in portuguese):

http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/LaraCroftBrasil

Translation

To Green Leaf, distributor company of Tomb Raider games in Brazil:

We want you to choose a new brazillian Lara Croft in the flesh to promote the next Tomb Raider game in Brasil.

Once that the "Tomb Raider Girl" Contest was never finished, we demand that you make a new contest to choose the brazillian Lara.

That contest must be finished before the release of the next Tomb Raider game that's being developed by Crystal Dynamics. So, the brazillian Lara Croft must chosen until May 2005.

By the brazillian fans of Lara Croft. Special thanks to aNa for letting us know. You can too submit Lara Croft news to us, using our contact form.

Thursday 1st of April-- No E3 for Tomb Raider this year

Eidos Interactive will not be showing the new, and as yet untitled, Tomb Raider game in Los Angeles at E3 this May, sources close to the company confirmed today.

The latest in the huge string of action games is currently in development at Crystal Dynamics, the firm behind the Legacy of Kain series, and while staffers have claimed to have the bare bones of the new game up and running internally there will be nothing to see on this year's show floor.

Eidos will instead centralise its Californian efforts this May 12 on explosive Platoon-alike Shellshock: Nam '67, and sneak-around-and-kill-athon, Thief: Deadly Shadows.

The seventh Tomb Raider game is currently listed for release in the middle of 2005. The franchise was unceremoniously torn from Core Design last year after a less than salubrious launch of the massively bug-ridden, and very late, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness, much to the chagrin of high flying brotherly duo Adrian and Jeremy Smith, who founded the developer, and have since departed to set up Circle Studio.

Monday 15th of March-- Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness goes Platinium!

Eidos announces that the multi-million selling Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness is coming to Sony's PlayStation 2 Platinum range. Originally released in June 2003, Lara Croft's chart-topping epic adventure, her first on PlayStation 2, will be available from April 9th 2004.

Accused of the murder of her former mentor, Werner Von Croy, Lara becomes a fugitive on the run. In an attempt to clear her name, she has no choice but to confront the secret alliance whose destiny it is to take over the world. With explosive action and a gripping story, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness is Lara's most dangerous adventure yet.

Thursday 4th of March-- Angelina Jolie to be Athens Torchbearer!

Tomb Raider Star and Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie will trade her leather Lara Croft outfit for a tracksuit later this year after agreeing to be one of the final torchbearers at the Athens Olympics.

In a letter to Athens Games organizers released Tuesday, Jolie, star of the two "Lara Croft" adventure movies, agreed to run one of the very last legs of the relay in Athens, the day before the lighting of the Olympic cauldron at the opening ceremony on August 13th, 2004.

The 29-year-old actress who is also a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), will carry the Olympic torch for a few hundred meters on the afternoon of August 12th 2004, as the international relay comes to a close in the Greek capital after crossing all five continents.

"I would consider it an honor to run with the Olympic torch as a gesture of hope for refugees and to express my active support for sport and world peace," Jolie said. "The preferred time for me to run would be 1800 or 1900 hours."

Angelina Jolie, whose second "Lara Croft" movie was partly filmed in Greece, is the first high-profile torchbearer to accept an invitation to run in the relay on its return to Greece.

Saturday 14th of February-- Happy Birthday Lara!

Lara Croft was born on February 14th in 1968. So, that makes Valentine's Day twice as special for Lara Croft fans. Not only is it the feast of LOVE, but it is also Lara Croft's birthday. It's an occasion not to be missed, as our beloved Lara turns 36 this winter. In order to celebrate, I have created a special card to wish Lara Croft a "Happy Birthday!" on behalf of her fans in Greece!

Sunday 8th of February-- Lucy Clarkson gossip

Former Lara Croft model Lucy Clarkson, 20, has admitted sharing a tender moment with U.S. pop singer Justin Timberlake during a party at London's Rex Cinema and Bar earlier this month. The former NSYNC band member, currently linked with Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz, originally met Clarkson last November but caught up again during an after-show party in London, Clarkson reveals in an interview with OK magazine.

"I knew there were photographers wanting to catch him doing something he shouldn't be, so I just said hello and kept my distance at first," Lucy Clarkson told UK's OK magazine. "But Justin quickly put me at my ease. We chatted for ages and later he drew me into a corner and we shared another kiss. I wasn't thinking about Cameron and he obviously wasn't thinking about her either."

Clarkson was just 16 when she superseded Lara Weller as the face of videogame heroine Lara Croft. She was charged by Eidos with promoting the franchise for two years until replaced by Dutch model Jill De Jong in March 2002.

Friday 23rd of January-- Circle Studio formed by two of Lara Croft creators

It has been announced that Jeremy Heath-Smith and Adrian Smith, two of the creators of Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider series of games, have formed Circle Studio. A further 35 ex-Core employees are already working at Circle, and have begun production of two prototypes for current and next-generation platforms. Here's a word or two from Smith:

"Adrian and I are still passionate about games and have the experience and skills, in-house, to continue producing original and successful titles," said Jeremy Heath-Smith. "We've enjoyed working with Lara these past seven years but are looking forward to creating something or someone new."

"It's very exciting to be standing on our own two feet again and we're fortunate to be in a position that allows us to develop our prototypes fully whilst exploring the best route or partnership for publishing."

As we know, they are not allowed to make Tomb Raider as the rights are owned by Eidos Interactive, but they might have some Tomb Raider influenced games up their sleeves nevertheless. This time around, they will not have to deal with publishers forcing them to make their games come out early, as they aren't bound to a strict schedule of a publishing company who wants a game to come out before the end of their fiscal year.

We should keep an eye on Circle Studio, because I expect some interesting stuff coming out of their building.

Saturday 22th of October-- N-Gage Code Hacked!

Hackers claimed Tuesday to have cracked the security code on Nokia's new N-Gage, saying they could play its games on other multimedia-capable cell phones. The company said it was investigating the claims.

Several websites and online bulletin boards said the code that protects Nokia's proprietary software was broken.

If so, that could result in N-Gage games becoming available for handsets made by other companies that use the Series 60 operating system. It also means that pirated copies could be downloaded from the Internet.

"We are taking a look to see what has happened," Nokia spokesman Damian Stathonikos told The Associated Press. "We take it very seriously and we are definitely investigating this."

If the code-cracking claims turn out to be true, said Stathonikos, Nokia will move to defend its intellectual copyrights.

Nokia released the N-Gage on Oct. 7 with an advertising and marketing blitz that put it in nearly 30,000 stores in 60 countries. It is offered by wireless carriers including Vodafone, mm02 and, in the United States, T-Mobile.

The N-Gage features multiplayer game play on a tri-band mobile phone that supports Bluetooth wireless networking and includes an MP3 player and an FM radio.

According to gaming website Spong.com, "N-Gage's security has been cracked like an egg," with other manufacturers' handsets able to play the machine's software.

Club-Siemens, an unofficial website run by Silje Brevik and Jorgen Molna, a pair of Norwegians working in London, featured pictures of what it said were screenshots of N-Gage games successfully operating on a Siemens AG SX1 handset.

An e-mail seeking comment was not immediately returned.

Wednesday 29th of October-- Jolie wins U.N Award!

Near tears, with her voice cracking, Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie accepted the U.N. Correspondents Association's first Citizen of the World Award for her work with refugees.

Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. refugee agency since 2001, told the awards dinner Wednesday night that she was "inspired and humbled" to work with refugees. Ruud Lubbers, the U.N. high commissioner for refugees who introduced Jolie, said the actress has extended her work with the refugee agency for another two years.

"She has helped put the spotlight on a disenfranchised group - refugees - and also those who are not in the headlines and who are victims of long forgotten crises," Lubbers said. "She gives a voice to millions of uprooted people across the globe."

Jolie, 28, said it was exceptionally meaningful to receive an award named for Sergio Vieira de Mello, the top U.N. envoy to Iraq, who was one of 22 people killed in the Aug. 19 bombing of U.N. headquarters in Baghdad.

Every time she looks at the award, Jolie said, she'll be reminded of the work he did for the United Nations, not only in Iraq but also for refugees and in promoting human rights.

Friday 19th of September-- Lara Croft on N-Gage to be released on the 7th of October

What more could you ask for than the delectable Lara Croft in the palm of your hand? Classic monster-shooting, exploration, and puzzle-solving action is on offer here, as Lara seeks the Scion, a relic from Atlantis. With 15 huge levels (set in South America, Greece, Egypt and Atlantis) and, even though it runs on a handheld device, full 3D graphics, this is, simply, the best portable version of Tomb Raider ever. Factor in a downloadable Assault Course which lets you compete against a ghost image of your friend's effort, and you have a winner.

Tomb Raider, starring Lara Croft, the curvy, aristocratic Brit was essentially designed as a female version of Indiana Jones - a concept which proved to have such massive appeal that Angelina Jolie has played her on film twice in 2001 and 2003. With her trade-mark twin guns and hotpants, she has even been on the cover of The Face magazine. She has been portrayed for promotional purposes by Rhona Mitra, Nell McAndrew and, currently, Dutch model Jill de Jong. Thanks to innovative downloadable levels, N-Gage owners will be able to compete against each other as Lara for the first time (previous Tomb Raiders were single-player only).

Saturday 6th of September-- Lara goes mobile!

Lara Croft's latest Tomb Raider adventure could put her in front of hundreds of millions of new players, thanks to mobile games studio IOMO and video games publisher Eidos.

A new game for mobile phones, entitled Tomb Raider: The Osiris Codex, will be released in the US and Europe. It will be available through soon to be announced network operators and will feature heavily in their Autumn marketing campaigns. The game will be released in three parts, starting with Episode 1, The Osiris Codex which will be available in the Autumn.

The game has been created for the latest generation of Java-enabled phones with colour screens including the Sharp GX10, Sharp GX20, Nokia 3650, Nokia 7650, Nokia 7210, Nokia 6200 and Motorola T720.

The game has been created as a side-scrolling platformer. Lara can perform all of the signature moves, such as running, jumping, crouching and climbing which have made her a gaming legend. As she progresses, Lara can pick up useful items and store them in her backpack for later use. She can also push and pull certain items within the game, to gain access to otherwise unreachable areas. Lara will of course, have her trademark pistols to hand in case they are needed.

The game also contains a number of hidden areas and secret items which can be discovered by vigilant Tomb Raiders on the game website www.tombraidermobile.com, where they can pick up hints and tips about the game and find out more about forthcoming episodes. According to our information, the sequels will be called "Tomb Raider: Quest For Cinnabar" and "Tomb Raider: Elixir of Life".

IOMO have proven they understand the technology and have created a valuable new addition to the Tomb Raider franchise.

IOMO's expertise in mobile entertainment development was recognised recently, with the company being nominated as one of the UK's leading mobile games studios by Develop magazine.

Wednesday 20th of August-- Paramout attacks Eidos and Core!

Tomb Raider movie creators Paramount, today attacked the games creators Eidos and Core Design; blaming the poor opening-weekend takings of the movie sequel in the USA, upon the mediocre critical reviews garnered by the franchise's latest digital outing.

Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life only managed to debut fourth in the standings Stateside, with disappointing sales of $21.7 million - way below expectations and the original Tomb Raider's debut. Paramount Prez Wayne Lewellen was quick to pass the buck, placing the blame squarely at the feet of the latest game, The Angel of Darkness: "The only thing we can attribute that to is that the gamers were not happy with the latest version of the Tomb Raider video game, which is our core audience."

Despite its flaws and a cool critical reaction, the latest Tomb Raider game has still managed excellent sales however, hitting the top of the charts and remaining commercially strong. Quite the opposite of the film, it would seem. To this writer it seems far more obvious that Lara's sales disappointment at the Pictures is perhaps more closely related to fierce competition from a number of other blockbusters, than to the game's obvious flaws, which, if reviews are to be believed, are certainly no worse than those found in the critically-panned motion picture.

Thursday 17th of July-- Got it!

The graphics are stunning I finally got Angel of Darkness for the PC. Be prepared for massive updates when I finish it. I am currently exploring the musem of Louvre and have already taken loads of screenshots. Stay tuned. I might even write a short walkthrough for the game.

Monday 30th of June-- Worldwide Release Dates for the Angel of Darkness (subject to change)

Got to wait

Saturday 28th of June-- It's been released!

TR: AoD Released! AT LAST!!! PS2 Version of TR: AoD Unleashed in North America On June 20th.

Introduction

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness asks more questions of Lara's abilities and motivations as she finds herself in nightmarish situations she has not faced before. As both hunter and hunted she must rely on her ingenuity, athleticism and a new harder edge that has arisen from her inner demons. For Lara it's no longer a clear-cut case of good versus evil, this is a more complex tale in which she will have moral choices to make for the first time.

A desperate phone call from her former mentor Werner Von Croy leads Lara to Paris. Von Croy has been asked by a sinister client, Eckhardt, to track down one of the Obscura Paintings - five 14th century artworks, which he is desperate to possess. She arrives to find the Parisian streets gripped with terror following the attacks of a violent serial killer.

Von Croy has been the victim of a horrific murder and framed for the crime, Lara becomes a fugitive on the run. Pursued by the police, she follows Eckhardt's trail from the back streets of Paris to the hellish depths of Prague, where plans to reawaken and exploit the powers and secrets of the Nephilim race are underway. It is up to her to defeat this unholy alliance and stop Eckhardt and a powerful group of individuals calling themselves 'The Cabal' from unleashing their incredible alchemic powers on the world.

During her epic adventure Lara encounters a kindred spirit in Kurtis Trent, a hardened adventurer, who is also in pursuit of Eckhardt. In her struggle to unravel the trail left by Von Croy, Lara becomes involved in underworld deals, grotesque murders, the dark side of an advanced form of alchemy and a history of blood, betrayal and vengeance spanning across hundreds of years.
