Tomb Raider 3 & Tomb Raider 3 Gold

About Tomb Raider 3, the third Tomb Raider game.

THE STORY

The cover of Tomb Raider 3

Lara's adventures start in India, while she's searching for the Infada Stone, a local legendary artifact, located in the ruins of an ancient temple in the Jungle. While following Ganges and after having found the artifact she meets Dr.Willard, a Scottish scientist who appears to be quite friendly. He tells her that the Infada Stone is one of the four artifacts that were made of an ancient meteorite and hires her to find the rest three. The four artifacts are:The Infada Stone,The Element 115,The Ora Dagger and The Eye of Isis.

As we can see in the opening FMV, the meteorite was discovered by some British sailors who saw the four artifacts placed with it. The only survivor sold all the artifacts when he returned to England. Willard needs the material of the artifacts to do some experiments.

After Lara has found all four artifacts, she heads to Antarctica, where Willard is doing his research. The plot thickens when Lara discovers that the material of the artifacts may have bad consequences in evolution, when tested on humans. Willard steals her artifacts and a man chase begins.

SECRETS

The dragons are gone. That is not very good because you don't know whether an item is a secret or not. I mean, you might see a medipack high up in a platform and when you manage to get there, realize that it is not a secret. A chime sounds when you locate one. The number of secrets in each level ranges from 0 to 6. Some secrets are very easy to find but most of them require you to go on a separate mission to find them. They can be medipacks, ammo, save crystals, or even weapons. The good thing is that if you find all 59 secrets, you get access to the bonus level: "All Hallows".

SAVING YOUR GAME

That is a save crystalIn the PC and Mac versions there are unlimited saves but in the PSX, the saving system is the one with the green save crystals, similar to the one in Tomb Raider 1. That means that those who play Tomb Raider on Playstation, can only save their game by using a save crystal. Save crystals can be found in several key places (after having done a series of difficult jumps, before facing a boss e.t.c). There are very few Save Crystals, though. Less than there should normally be. That makes things harder for Playstation users. The only difference between Tomb Raider 3 and Tomb Raider 1, as regards the saving system, is that the save crystals can be found in the PC/Mac versions as well, where they work as small power ups.

NEW WEAPONS

TRAINING LEVELS

The training level is Lara's Mansion in Surrey, but there have been made some important changes. There more rooms and a lot of new furniture(TV, dining room) and you can open the door that leads outside Lara's Home. Doing that, however, will end the level. You can access a room where Lara keeps her artifacts(Scion, Dagger of Xian) and you can do riding practice with a quadbike, if you find the way to access it though. You can also practice Lara's moves on an improved version of the assault course. Winston the butler will be there as well-why don't you go for some shooting practice with him?

WHICH LOCATION SHOULD I CHOOSE AFTER INDIA?

This question gets asked very frequently. If I give you an answer I'll spoil the enjoyment of the game? I don't want to do that for you, so I've masked the answer. Highlight the white area to get it. Don't say I didn't warn you. Answer:You should first go to Nevada, because in the second level Lara will be arrested by some police officers who will take all the weapons and medipacks she has collected so far away from her. If you go there first, you'll be able to fully recover for the tough enemies in Antarctica, because there will be two locations left for you to visit and get some goodies(London and South Pacific Islands). It doesn't really matter whether you go to London or to the South Pacific Islands next, because both locations are of the same difficulty. That's it. I've officially ruined part of the storyline!

TOMB RAIDER 3 GOLD: THE LOST ARTIFACT-INFO

There are six bonus level in the Gold Version of Tomb Raider 3 for the PC and Mac. The Gold Version is called "Lost Artifact" and even though it has no cutscenes it is a complete game with a boss enemy:Sophia Leigh, who somehow survived the battle in Tomb Raider 3 and is ready for a rematch. Lara finds out that there is a fifth artifact made from the meteorite that made the other four artifacts, which is called "The Hand of Rathmore".She wants to find it, but Sophia has joined the hunt, too. There are always three secrets in each level, except for the last one that has none. Each guest to find a secret is a complete mission itself and it enables you to learn more things about the location, meet new enemies e.t.c, things you wouldn't be able to do if you played the game without searching for the secrets. You get to explore a Scottish Castle with hidden dungeons, a zoo in Paris, and some underwater tunnels. You may be able to catch a glimpse of Nessie, if you are careful. The controls, the moves and the weapons are the same as in Tomb Raider 3 and the training level is Lara's Mansion again. There are some new enemies, such as pterodactyls, dangerous mutant fish that can poison you with their breath, white tigers and more. You can use a quadbike and avoid some trains as well.
